Waylon (12): We brought Waylon home from Shelby Park after he was let in the gate, then everyone refused to help him because they had '1 dog & couldn't have another.' Stamp sucker on our foreheads & send us home with 4 dogs. Friendly, passive, & housetrained, he became part of the Minunno Misfits. We look back & think, "we should have kept him & not gotten into rescue." But that would have been selfish, & he found a terrific home in New England thanks to American Lab Rescue. We still get updates on Wayl who loves to wail, how big he's gotten, and what a great brother he is to their poodle & kitties. His best friend is their blind kitty; they are buddies & take care of each other.
A PET'S 10 COMMANDMENTS
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that, however you treat me & even though I live in the present, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could bite you, yet I choose not to hurt you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
Silly Lillie (94): Little Woman had been abused, starved, & neglected by her owners & was taken by Rutherford County P.A.W.S. where she stayed for many weeks. When Captain realized she would be euthanized, Little Woman checked into Camp & became Miss Silly Lillie, the perfect foster pup. While she was sponsored by & adoptable thanks to Great Dogs Rescue of New England, she was adopted locally by friends of Camp Chaos. Our silly girl is part of a big family of 4-legged siblings, including Dakota, her BFF.
How We Spend the Money
Camp Chaos 37206 is once again a 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible, as is the adoption fee! If you make a donation through PayPal, please click on the Other tab & choose Gift so no vig is taken by PayPal.
Every $10 donated pays for a spay (for girls) or neuter (for boys), rabies shot, 7-way shot, & Frontline dose when we use Nashville Humane's low-cost program.
We purchase 7-way & bordetella vaccines for a total of $230 from DrsFoster & Smith. There are 25 of each, & shipping is $30 since they are shipped overnight on ice.
CC3 has been blessed with the Good People we have met in this crazy world of rescue. We have been supported by so many through fostering, donations, & emotional support. These Good People have a special place in our hearts, of course, but we also love to help them when they & their animals are in need. If CC3 doesn't have money to donate to their emergency, we pull it out of our own pocket. It may not be a lot, but if everyone in the circle donated $5-20, the financial burden that comes with rescue would not be so overwhelming. When you do donate to Camp Chaos 37206, rest assured your money is going to better the life of our companion animals.
All Camp Chaos pups are socialized with other dogs & are not dog are not allowed to be food aggressive, thanks to a great alpha dog, Commander Chaos. Some have a favorite toy they don't like to share, but that is seldom. They eat & sleep side-by-side by the 3rd day here. Even the abuse cases will begin to play & romp within 2 weeks. We cannot & do not allow them to act as the alpha. There is always a smaller or weaker or older or younger or less-socialized dog checking into Camp to begin life on a new & good note. Peace.
LOW-COST spay/neuter options.
Euthanasia is the #1 killer of companion animals.
Please help us reduce the number of healthy animals killed annually. "Fix" your dogs & cats!
Educate your family, friends, & neighbors on humane treatment of companion animals. Let's do our part to prevent negligent & harmful treatment to animals.
Watch for dogs who play or run with their owners in hot weather—they can't regulate body heat by sweating like humans do. Heat stroke kills dogs because they run until collapse. Watch for hard panting, ropey saliva, wobbly movements, red gums and tongue, vomiting, diarrhea. Intervene immediately or the dog could die. PLEASE BE AWARE: cats are at high risk for heat stroke too. Watch for the same symptoms as dogs, listed above.

Minnie Pearl > Jolene (72): Jolene & Luca checked into Camp together after being thrown from a moving pick-up truck Oct '08. Good Samaritans took them to the vet where they were boarded while begging someone to take them. Commander can't stand such utter disregard & inhumane treatment of dogs, by the way. When he heard their story, he called to ask if we could take them. That afternoon, they checked into Camp. Jolene was heartworm positive & was treated while staying with a foster buddy where there would be less activity. She graduated from Camp & was adopted February '09. Since her 1st day, she has been best friends & loverpup to her new parents. While Heather was adopting Jolene for herself, it seems that Cory has taken over as #1. Jolene spends her spare time shopping, hanging out at the park, playing dress-up, & cuddling.
Happy Trails & Tales from The Campers of Chaos 37206
When a foster pup checks into Camp Chaos, or any foster home, a world of opportunity opens that otherwise would be unavailable. Take a look at the opportunities our Campers seized thanks to spending a little time at Camp Chaos. Send an update & photo to CampChaos37206@gmail.com to share your happy tale! Lincoln (78): With his sisters, Tinkerbell & Toya, Lincoln checked into Camp Oct. '08 after being born on the streets to a feral mama. In Feb. '09, Greg & Heather decided to adopt their first baby. Thankfully Mickey's mom referred them to Camp Chaos, Lincoln was adopted, & now he's living his happily ever after! Although he was born with multiple siblings, Lincoln enjoys being an only child. His mommy & daddy spoil him with walks, wrestling, and trips to the dog park.
Toya (77): Lincoln's sister Toya was the least social of the siblings but we knew time, patience, & walks would do so much for her. In April '09, Leslie & Steve decided their first child, Daisy, needed a playmate, & Toya was the lucky girl they wanted to add to their family. Toya & Daisy became fast friends, enjoying days of playing, taking walks, & lots of cuddling. While Toya doesn't like to admit it, she enjoys being petted & getting tummy rubs from her mommy!
Mickey (32): In Feb. '08, the Chaos Crew rescued Mickey. He lived under an abandoned home in East Nashville until then at 4 months old. After living at Camp for 3 months, he was adopted in July '08 by a motivated & dedicated young lady named Carolyn. With patience, love, & a jogging habit, she worked a miracle with him. He now enjoys the dog park, hiking, & giving kisses! It's always a treat when he comes to visit us. Micks settles in with his ol' family like he never left! He, to date, is the greatest success story we have with turning a semi-feral pup into a loving, friendly, & socialized companion!
Lil Raleigh Pete (93): The 3rd RP was found by the interstate ramp in the 'hood March '09. Commander brought him home & saved him from death by traffic. I considered him a gift from Commander to Captain &, therefore, my puppy. I knew there are so many to save, it wasn't realistic or fair to add him to the furever Campers of Chaos. He instead had Precious Friends Puppy Rescue take him to North Shore Animal League on Long Island along with some of Tika's babies. I wish we had a foster home so we could have ensured he found a wonderful home, but we don't always get what we want. Therefore, I pray NSAL found him a fabulous indoor home with outdoor privileges.
Raleigh Petey>RP (23): RP checked into Camp along with his mama & siblings Sept. '07 at 5 weeks old. Ringworm kept him out of North Shore Animal League via Precious Friends; getting long bone inflammation after being adopted in New England got him returned to us, too. In Dec. '08, after LBI cleared up, he was adopted by Roger & Erin who love him beyond belief. He returns to Camp with his little sister Baylee often to see his biggest fans...Us!
Luca Brasi (71): Luca & Pearl > Jolene checked into Camp October '08. They had been tossed out the window as a truck drove down the street. He weighed 36 lbs, which means he literally was skin, bones, & organs. He & his mate were scraped, to say the least, & Luca endured staples on his crown from hitting the ground. Ouch. Despite the rough start, his spirits weren't dampened. He enjoyed the company of fellow campers & learned to romp & play. It was a joy to have him at Camp & we wish we had a farm so he could have been a Furever Camper. But, the next best thing was Luca being adopted by Commander Chaos' parents & little sister May '09! Now a resident of the Hamptons, Luca Brasi takes long walks with his Rottie sister Jessie, lounges on the deck, naps in the sunroom, & gets tons of love.
Turbo Dog (17): Do you know what happens when people know you have taken in a stray? That's right: they call you whenever they find a dog in need, want to give it to you without giving you any money to help care for it, then they tell their friends how they saved this dog. Enter Turbo Dog into our home. His neighbor got his previous owner to surrender him because he was left in his crate daily for 10-14 hour stretches. He loved free reign of the home & his new playmates. Turbo stayed with us a week or two before becoming Inspector Dave's newest best friend & sidekick.
Dingo Dog (39): This little broken-tailed boy checked himself into Camp March '08. He politely came to our fence & patiently waited to be let in the gate so he could join the pack. We found out, thanks to ListServ, he had been living on the streets for a few weeks, a lady had been feeding him, but that was it. He had been beaten up as could be seen by the cuts & bites. The line, "The Dingo ate the baby!" never got old in the months he was with us. Dingo Dog was a most grateful & easy Camper, getting vetted, neutered, & ready for adoption. Dingo was adopted May '08 by a lovely lady looking for a buddy for her & her lab.
Moxie > Daisy (65): This sweet girl spent her first 3 years living on a chain that typically was wrapped around her doghouse. Thankfully she had an advocate in family who found us, but the burden of finding a foster almost got the best of your Captain. After many weeks, we finally found her a foster home. When she was freed from her chain, I cried like a baby. Daisy now is an AKC Good Citizen! Daisy will spend her day splashing around in the wading pool, avoiding rooms with ceiling fans, & enjoying a game of chase with other pups. Much to her brother Colt's dismay, however, she doesn't like to wrestle. We love seeing her family on their walks around East Nashville.
Daisy (69): This girl was lucky enough for us to find a weekend foster Dec '08. She had no experience with bullies, was a bit uncertain about the breed, but wanted to help this little pup. Quickly Daisy showed her now-furever-Mom what joyful living was all about. More than a year later, this 70-lb bundle of joy keeps her mom smiling & laughing with her goofiness & never-ending supply of love. We love getting reports from her mom, telling us of her snuggles & sighs that tell her, "Oh, Momma, I love you!" Her Brother Eddie tolerates her, but he doesn't get down & dirty playing, as you can see Daisy likes to do!
Pauly (31): My heart still breaks when I think of Pauly dog or see his photo. He & his brother Mickey have been our greatest success story, being caught in Feb '08 after living under a run-down, abandoned house at an age that made socializing them questionable. Even the trainer said they might or might not be able to become comfortable & social dogs. Pauly turned around quickly & was the perfect & most beautiful puppy thanks to our foster buddy. He was adopted in June. After 2 weeks at his new home, we received a call that their adult female dog had broken his neck & killed him. They left them together, unkenneled while they weren't home. We cried for days over the loss of the perfect little boy that died a cruel & unnecessary death. I swore I would never adopt out another dog, we would keep all of our fosters & never take in another because it was impossible to ensure a dog's safety when it was up to someone else to keep them safe. But here we are, more than 2 years later, still mourning his loss, but moving forward with our mission to help dogs in need. Rest in peace, sweet boy, Pauly. I am sorry your life was cut so short.
One, Two, Three, & Four (33-36): A call from a friend of the East Nashville Police Dept landed this litter with a friend of Camp who graciously fostered them while they awaited their intake date with Precious Friends. Commander wouldn't allow me to name them since it would mean they may stay with us longer! Their fosters did name them, Crocket, Tubbs, Maurice, & Ginger. Not only were we able to connect Good People & save these pups, but the mama dog's owner got her spayed, vaccinated, wormed, & learned how to better care for his dog.
Brownie & Black & Tan (37 & 38): Camp Chaos didn't do much for these 2 pups other than connect Good People Feb '08, which is a lot when there are so few fosters for so many dogs in need. They were from different moms but saved by our East Nashville Police Dept friend simultaneously being that they were living at the same place. Brownie found a home through Happy Tales. Black & Tan, now Cassie, was adopted by a friend.

Within a week, I was picking up a dog at the shady grocery store on Shelby. She was small, cute, & frumpy, like a mini-Romi. Commander Chaos wasn't happy with my find, to say the least. The next day, we took her to Nashville Humane who charged us the $15 intake fee even though the owner had called looking for Benji & was coming to fetch her. Not cool in my book. A few weeks later on Feb 15 '07, Willie Nelson showed up at our door. I brought him in, bathed him to get rid of the fishy smell, but it didn't work. Romi hated him & so did Commander Chaos, thus I put him on our unfenced front porch in hopes his owner would find him. Instead our neighbors took him into their backyard, called him Buddy, & kept him until his appointment with Nashville Humane 2 weeks later. It is thanks to them that we learned what to do when a stray arrives: bring it in, DON'T later let it out just because it's an irritating new dog (key step), & find a rescue to help.
A Litter of 9 Puppies (3-11): March '07 found us at the dog park 7am on a Monday morning. As we had our coffee & watched our 3 girls run, a ne'er-do-well in a Champagne Maxima/Camry pulled into the parking lot, lost our attention, & then left 9 little puppies behind my car with a butter bowl of beans & cornbread. Not only were they puppies, which even the Grinch couldn't leave alone, but it was a record-breaking cold day. After making a call to the office to let them know I'd be late, Commander walked our dogs home & I drove home with a backseat full of shivering puppies. Nashville Humane took all for intake except 1, Fluff Bucket > Diego. Greta, Batman, & Yogi were with us longer than the rest since we had to have 2 intake appointments. Greta would have become a furever pup if Georgie Girl wouldn't have joined us from animal control 2 weeks prior. Since then, we don't give large-breed puppies to NHA for fear that someone will adopt them only to have them become yard dogs. While it takes time, work, & money, it has been worth it to ensure that our little ones get their happily ever after.
Chadwick (15): After American Lab Rescue [ALR] were so good to Waylon & us in finding him a perfect home, we wanted to give back by fostering. Chadwick came from a high-kill shelter in Louisiana. He was our first experience with destroyed personal items, like Commander Chaos' work Blackberry. Fury filled the house, Chadwick went to doggie daycare, & we learned a few calming techniques which allowed Chadwick to come home after only a couple of hours. Not only did ALR not black-ball us from fostering, but more importantly we as fosters learned how to handle the first of many deaths to things we love & needed, as well as not leave those items within dog-reach!
Rico>Jack (24): Jack, brother to Mojo & RP, was a tiny crybaby at 5 weeks old. At 12 weeks old, he was diagnosed with long-bone inflammation & were advised to euthanize him. That was not an option. When the LBI cleared, he was a playful, pain-free puppy. At 6 months old, American Lab Rescue found him a great home in CT. Jack is growing up with his best friend, Luke. He has the longest legs & a beautiful sleek coat. His family reports that he is the sweetest & most loving & gentle goofball, which seems to run in the family! Jack's favorite spot is in the sandbox next to Luke.
Lela>Gracie (13): Lela the Labradoodle was found by Nashville's animal control 4th of July weekend '07. She & her brother were running down I-40 when they were pinched & taken to doggie jail. Sad but true, this dynamic duo had no one looking for them. He was adopted in no time while she was left for weeks, posted as "Tom Seleck" & a boy. Thanks to American Lab Rescue, I was able to pay for her pull fee, get her vetted, then transport her to New England where she lives a few blocks from the beach with her retired parents. Now called Queen Gracie, like a good now-Irish lady should be, she enjoys long walks, swimming in the ocean, & playing with the grandkids.
Mojo (21): Commander Chaos started taking more pics of Mojo than his siblings, Rico, Elvis, & RP, & it was obvious he was bonding with the tubby little fellow. 2 months after checking into Camp, Commander asked if Mojo could be a permanent Camper, and this Captain wasn't telling him no! Mojo weighs 82 lbs at 2 years old & resembles a pony moreso than a puppy dog. He is the only boy in the CC3 pack, but he loves having little foster buddy boys check in or his brother RP visit. Currently the Commander is teaching Mojo to track & rescue.
Missy/Girlie>Baby Pooh (19): Missy was Commander's name for her, which I couldn't say due to braces, so I called her Girlie. Our vet tech decided her son & her boy dog needed a little girl. After being at Camp for a week, she was adopted & renamed Baby Pooh. While she never grew larger than 20 lbs, she got extra-large love & care!
Lady > Sadie (18): Lady was one of the many pregnant dogs on the streets before checking into Camp, before Camp was even 'Camp.' Maybe life as an indoor pet never began or ended when it became too messy or inconvenient. Camp Chaos was born Sept. '07 when we heard Lady was living under a house with her 4-week-old pups. Jack, RP, Mojo, Elvis, & Baby Pooh (below) are her babies. Thanks to the ne'er-do-wells who allowed Lady's life to be challenged, Camp Chaos has helped 100+ puppy dogs. Thanks to American Lab Rescues' perseverance & dedication, Sadie now lives on a farm in New England with her brothers & sisters that include dogs, horses, cats, & even a sister of the 2-legged type!
Adelade (97): This sweet old girl is 1 of the many who was dumped in the park & made her way to our fence. She was easily leashed & brought into the holding area at Camp, aka our bathroom, on a hot Tuesday morning June '09. With mammaries hanging low & teeth broken & discolored, I gave her a name I had been reserving for a special dog, 1 that would be with us longer than a few days. We both knew she wasn't going to be adopted quickly, if ever, thus she was named Adelade. Various visits to the vet for different reasons didn't bother Addie. Meeting our pack didn't bother her too badly either & quickly she became a favorite Camper of dogs & visitors alike. An oldie but a goodie, Adelade graced our home with her presence until early November '09. Being unspayed for so long & having so many litters of puppies took its toll long before we got her. Breast cancer was found & within a couple of weeks, my sweet & loving Adelade had to be released from this life. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
Big Mama (99): Big Mama was adopted Sept. '09 by a wonderful young married couple & their 2 year old son, Peyton. After meeting our girl, they fell in love, just like we did. Her new Mama is her best friend, & they go everywhere together. Big Mama already enjoys being pampered with paw-dicures & her new favorite color is pink. She of course wears it well, sporting collars with matching hats, jackets, & sometimes shoes. For holidays, Big Mama wears her holiday cheer with a big smile, then comes home for sweet dreams next to her favorite people.
Cheeky Monkey > Patticake (47): On May 22, 2008, the story of Patticake began with the name of Cheeky Monkey. We had a couple of friends who fostered her, but it didn't work. She was afraid of everyone. Never having human contact & being rescued at 12 weeks old affects a pup that way. While we didn't have the time to devote to get her socialized, but it beat the alternative (euthanasia). PC would just live with us, hopefully finding a home, but if not, that was fine, too. In Oct '09, she took a trip to New England where she was called Priscilla by her new family. Despite their desires, she was the same frightened dog there as she was at Camp. They found out the hard way that a semi-feral dog requires a lot of work. Therefore, Patticake found herself making the 18 hour trek back to Nashville 6 months later. Any progress we had made from May to Oct '08 was gone; she poohed on herself the entire 2 hour drive home. We had to start from scratch again. Granted, when she got to Camp, she was so happy! She went around to all of her old pals, giving kisses & wagging her whole body. This time around, we forced her to take walks with us. She found new hobbies she enjoyed like playing catch. In Dec '09, Patticake learned a new trick: jumping the backyard fence. She was hit by a car & spent 3 weeks with VCA in Mt. Juliet. The silver lining was the forced socialization, being touched & fed by random, loving people throughout the day. She still has a little limp after losing a toe, ligaments, & tendons, but she is no worse for the wear. Commander Chaos calls her our 'half dog' meaning she is adoptable but she's been with us for so long that it's as if she's one of our own!
Carly > Daphney (16): Carly is what happens when someone new to rescue reads the rescue boards. She was in a high-kill Georgia shelter & had to get out asap. American Lab Rescue said they would find her a home & pay for her pull fees. I learned with this girl that many shelters, while they want us to save the dog, they also use vets that charge EXORBITANT fees to vet the dog prior to letting them be pulled. I don't know how ALR still deals with me after the 'help' as a foster I have offered, but I am so grateful they do. Now Miss Daphney, our sweet beauty has an awesome family who enjoys hiking & jogging!
